Generational Family Portraits with Orange County Family Photographer

It’s no secret that I love my job and I believe in what I do. But every once in awhile, a family and a session come along that remind me in the clearest way that what I do is so much more than a job. The Rico family and their generational family portraits? Definitely one of those special reminders. 

While on vacation with my family last summer, I was contacted by Nicole, their family had received some unexpected and difficult news. Their father was just diagnosed with advanced stage cancer. Nicole and her sister knew just how important it was to document these priceless moments with their father.  Despite the not so great news, the Rico family was a JOY to work with! They were funny, full of energy and the love they feel for each other is so obvious. 

Like all my clients, Nicole was able to have a pre-session styling consultation to discuss wardrobe choices for their session. Since I was out of town and time was of the essence, we chose to do hers remotely, but we were able to talk through every member of the family and what they should wear to make sure their family portraits looked even more beautiful! Nicole told me later that this consultation helped reduce stress leading up to the session – which is what I’m all about! 

 The Rico family’s session was a precious reminder that life is fragile and can change in an instant. After years of talking about it, this session actually spurred me to capture a generational session of my own extended family not long after this. No matter what your reason for wanting to capture these timeless family moments, never forget how important they truly are. The best time is right now, don’t wait because these portraits tell your stories, the good times, the hard times and everything in between.
