Dreamy Pastel Cake Smash with Orange County Children's Photographer

Happy first birthday to Tatum! I was so excited when her mother contacted me about a cake smash session to celebrate Tatum’s first birthday. We previously photographed her big sister, Skyler’s cake smash, so I was thrilled to be able to have another session with the family. They’re all so sweet and celebrating both girls’ first birthdays in our Orange County studio is a wonderful memory to have. 

Tatum’s mother informed me she was looking for a dreamy, rainbow, pastel inspired setup, with hints of sparkle throughout. I personally love what we came up with! One of my favorite parts of a cake smash is designing and creating the set up so that each child’s session is unique to them, their personalities, and your home/life. The session was even more special because Tatum’s Aunt created the beautiful cake she got to dig into! It fit perfectly into the setup and I loved the pink and gold décor of the cake. Mom chose a sweet little pink tutu with a gold crown for Tatum to wear and she was absolutely adorable!! 

Although Tatum didn’t want to give me too many smiles at first, once she gave me a few, they kept coming! She has a smile that lights up any room and it was really beautiful to photograph. At first she didn’t seem to like the cake, but then dove right in. Before long though, she was over it all! Not everyone thinks about the photos when a child isn’t enjoying the cake but I love documenting the whole session – even the tears are worth remembering. 

Cake smashes are a great chance to celebrate your little one’s birthday. The images will help you remember how small your sweet one was and what it was like to get through the first year of parenthood with a new baby! Definitely something to celebrate!!
